Passage: In Leading Change, Kotter (2012), reviews the eight stage-process of change, providing detail related to each stage of the process. For the communicating the change vision stage of the process, Kotter outlines the seven key elements that lead to communicating vision effectively. Kotter begins by suggesting that the vision should be simple. Too often organizations feel that a vision should be complex in its structure, whereas the more streamlined the information is, the easier it is for others to interpret its meaning. In an effort to maintain simplicity when communicating one’s vision, it is important that the leader, “recognizes the importance of clearly enumerating problems to be resolved; the goals to be achieved; the moral basis for making value judgments; the positive and negative impacts of options on stakeholders; and the rationale used for the leader’s ultimate decision” (Ndalamba et. al., 2018, p. 10). In reflection, this strategy was used when the internal communications team at Yale University implemented a new internet site that combined 45 separate websites into one. The vision was simple and pointed to the new solutions as a one-stop shop to access the information needed to get work done._x000D_

The second element focuses on the use of language that helps the audience visualize the vision. Drawing parallels or comparisons by using words that help to draw the audience in through imagery and metaphors is a way to capture attention and convey the vision in an interesting way that allows people to relate to the words._x000D_
