Corporate social responsibility deals with the overall welfare of society and the responsibilities that organizations have towards ensuring this welfare. As such, we will examine the specific individual and corporate actions and behaviors that promote societies overall welfare and which lead to the improvement of people’s lives. _x000D_

The learning objectives for this week are to:_x000D_

5. Summarize ethics in financial responsibilities affecting and controlling public and private companies, including those required by Sarbanes-Oxley._x000D_
6. Evaluate ethical considerations of executive compensation and insider trading._x000D_

These learning objectives tie into the overall concept of Business ethics by examining specific theories of corporate social responsibility and how they relate to the standards of conduct and behavior that society expects from individual people and organizations within the business realm._x000D_

The assignments for this week are a Unit Essay on ethics in financial responsibilities and evaluating ethical considerations of executive compensation. These assignments are meant to tie in the learning objectives of social responsibility to demonstrate how they are related to practical situations in the real world. These practical situations include a company’s social reputation, a company’s reputation management, the social responsibilities of pharmaceutical companies, and in comparing the neo-classical and classical theories of corporate social responsibility._x000D_

This assignment provides you with an opportunity to summarize ethics in financial responsibilities and to evaluate ethical considerations of executive compensation by writing a persuasive essay. In your essay, take a position on the following topics, and support it with evidence. Evidence can be facts, statistics, and quotes from scholarly articles, reliable news sources, or even anecdotal examples from personal experience. You may use any of the readings from this course, or you may find new ones to support your position. At least two pieces of evidence should be used (one for each topic)._x000D_
Do you think executive compensation in its various parts (i.e., salary, stock options, severance packages) funded at the current level is unethical? If so, how would you revise the compensation so that it was just? On what basis would you change it? Does the government have a role to play? If so, in what manner?_x000D_
Is the Sarbanes-Oxley Act too strict, not strict enough, or just right? Explain._x000D_
Your essay should be at least 500 words in length, double-spaced, and written in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Use APA Style to format your citations.
