Rational System_x000D_
Defining Characteristics_x000D_
This system of organizations defining characteristics are goal oriented and structured (Scott & Davis, 2007). The goals or wanted outcomes of the organization are specific and direct. The organizations formalized structure supports and allows for standardization of task for predictable results (Scott & Davis, 2007). The decision making is done by the supervisor or manager and it is their point of view that is important to the organization (Egeberg & Stigen, 2021). In turn they will also add context to the decision based on their organizational position._x000D_
Theoretical Viewpoints_x000D_
Scott and Davis (2007) give us four main theories on the rational system. They are Taylor’s Scientific Management, Fayol’s Administrative Theory, Webbers Theory of Bureaucracy, and Simons Theory of Administrative Behavior. Taylor’s Scientific Management is based on science as the name of the theory notes. Taylor believed that scientific analysis of the employee’s job could revile savings in time and supplies and increase productivity (Scott & Davis, 2007). Fayol’s Administrative Theory looked at the organization from the top down as opposed to Taylor’s theory looking at it from the bottom up. And as the name depicts this theory’s focus was on administrative task that supported decision making (Scott & Davis, 2007). Webber’s theory alerts us to the rise of bureaucratic organizations for the purpose of control over the organization. It splits the organizations required administrative task into separate job classifications (Scott & Davis, 2007). Simon disagreed with Fayol’s administrative theory. Instead his theory was about the secretive control the organization had on its employees through purposeful information tactics (Scott & Davis, 2007). _x000D_
