Being a part of the operations team at my job requires developing vision and strategy after deciding where the program is struggling and how we would prefer the program to perform. With a team of five, we are in charge of creating the vision, making sure it is compliant, creating a plan to implement the vision, communicating the plan to the organization, and following through to create controls after completion. With all of these steps, the reason why we are completing this project or change in process may sometimes get lost in the months and years of work. A vision helps keep the focus on the goal and how it will improve in the latter. Jensen (2018) states, “This vision, in turn, increases employees’ attraction to their organization’s purpose, which, ultimately, is expected to be important for performance because employees invest greater energy and effort toward goals they perceive as meaningful and significant” (p.250). Vision is important to include meaningful expectations and can continue to be relevant and inspire throughout the process. Kotter states a good vision serves three important purposes, clarifying the direction for change, motivate people to take the correct action, and coordinate all the moving parts (Kotter, 2012). If these three objectives are met, it becomes difficult to steer away from the goal later down the line.
